Technohull 888

Following on from the Technohull 999 thread - a few details of the 888 model as mentioned. This was a new design for us and so far one boat has been racing and won the 300hp class in Greece this year. Now the first leisure version has been launched.

I have just got back from testing and was very pleased with the boat. Handling and general control was very good and it will make an excellent leisure RIB.

First tests were with a Yamaha 350 outboard and we saw a best of 62 knots. Not the best choice of engien perhaps - maybe I would go for Verado or E-Tec.

Anyway - hope this is of interest.

Hi Adam, just a question.

Is the race version lighter than the base one? Because the "normal" version achieves lower speed that the race one , even powered by 50 plus horsepower.
Or, in your opinion, is the Merc300Xs that does the difference?

Why do you think the 350 yammi is not the best choice? What about performances, compared to verado 350 or e-tec 300, or also the Merc300 Optimax xs? Which is your best choice for this package?

I think the Yamaha is probably a very good engine - but maybe for larger heavier boats. I'm sure following boats will be fitted with single Verado's as well and the comparison will be really interesting.

Yes - the leisure boat is quite a lot heavier. The engine being a lot heavier - then heavier (double) batteries, toilert in the console, aft seats, anchor and generally a heavier build. Also running the engine a bit lower for leisure use.

I was hoping to test the baot in rough water too. Just had some large motor yacht washes to cross - which it handled very well. The raceboat has raced in rough water (and won) and been very good - so hopefully a good sign. Hopefully I will get to test in rough watre and with a Verado one day!

Sorry for taking so long to reply - just got back from a 5 week trip to Antarctica! Longest break in my life - and an amzing experience!

Anyway - yes, the 888 can take twin outboards. I would think twin 200's would be great - but would work very well with less power too.

I believe Technohull are building an 888 for twins at the moment.
