Big trip in Italian waters 2010

Messaggioda Karel » 14/03/2010, 18:17

Hi ribbers

This summer my wife and me plan a trip which will take us mostly in Italian waters (see the image attached). We live in Belgium and take the rib by road to the south of France. There we will head off to the westcoast of Corsica, then the eastcoast of Sardinia, cross over to Tunis, returning via Sicily, Naples, Roma, Piombino, Corsica and back to the south of France.

Any information on currents, winds, sea, harbours ... is very welcomed! We are looking forward to reading your advice :bene:

Welcome Karel :ceer:
great raid .... :D
Do you use your BSC ?
I think you'll find friends of the forum on the Italian coast.
Keep us informed and give us detailed information and see how we can help you. ;-)
You have photos of your rib ?

Marco

Yes, we will use our BSC61 for this trip. We're now planning all the stops. If possible we would like to camp on the rib. I've found some very interesting pictures here and a link to a great manufacturer of rib tents in your country (http://www.hertelteli.it). :bene:

I will keep you posted on our progress.

I have an Hertel's camp. It good and very well made.
He has 3 type of cloths
2 grey and one blu.
I have the grey because it's more light but for your period and your long cruise I prefere the blue cloth.
It's bigger and more heavy but very strong .
Jebo can you give some info about the SardegnaCoast that you know ?

Ciao Karel, welcome on board :bene:
Can I ask you how many engine have your RIB ? The trip from Corsica to Sicily and from Tunis (Africa) to Sicily can be very dangerous and if I korrektly understand you will make this trip alone....

Thank you.

We have 1 outboard of 140 hp. We're thinking of installing a small spare engine.

Any info on the seas is very welcomed! Could you clarify what you mean by dangerous crossings?

Karel, if the step you want to stop in Northern Sardinia near Cannigione, tell me in MP.
that'll explain everything.

Crossing from Corsica to Tunis is more than 115 nm (about 4 hours in good conditions) and the sea-conditions can change very fast. Also Tunis-Sicily can be dangerous because also there the sea can change in few minutes ...This trip can be made only if the forecast are very sure and good.
When you come nearly Tyrrenean sea; Circeo, about 60 nm south of Rome I can help you with information etc. (also if you vist the Pontine islands).

ciao

Hi Jebo

We're planning passing by Cannigione as you can see in the picture. Is it worth while to stop in that harbour because we still can change our stops? I'm all ears :bene: and tell me all about it )*(
