Which prop for SUZUKI DF300 - Jolly 720

Messaggioda nektarios » 26/01/2009, 20:27

I have a nuova jolly king 720 with suzuki df300. Currently I have suzuki propeller 21,5x3x16.

I am able to get 5,800rpm at full throttle with 47knts with 150ltrs petrol, 2 persons etc.

I am thinking of getting a second prop with a smaller pitch but same diameter so I can reach higher in the WOT range of the motor.

in my mind is either the 20 or 19 pitch prop from suzuki.

Has anybody in here tried the df300 with nuova jolly 720 and what is the performance with their props.

Hi Marksails, do you think final speed will drop so much. Oh. Any other options you would suggest ?

I think the 20" or the 19" too short for your rib, because your rpm @ WOT are right with the 21.5" .
In my opinion you can choose a prop not shorter than 21" (3 blades, steel) -if available- to reach 5900 - 6000max rpm.
Maybe the correct propeller for optimum speed and range is yours.

Akeswins, good point. My only issue is that I am still on the lower end of the WOT for the motor. I want to reach over +6,000rpm. In order to achieve the 5,800rpm I have to trim the motor very much. I will see if there is a prop for 20", I think powertech does have that fits. I know suzuki does not have one.

Hi All, I suggest to set-up your engine 1 inches up and leave the same propeller. The best choise is buy a power lift and adgiust the correct level siade by side.

Another guy with same boat and motor, has planned to do this on his jolly. So I will have the results in the next 1 month.

Currently the motor is on the 2nd hole (from the top) of the motor base. It does have room to move up at least 1 position. This may fix also that I have so much trim, as on the suzuki trim indicator, it goes up to 6 o'clock and even more for full trim.

I tried the 20x3x16 suzuki prop on the jolly 720 and df300 and are happy with the results.

I was one person and 150ltr petrol, 60ltr water, 2nd motor yam 9.9hp on the jolly 720. The weather was 2-3bf.

Very fast planning, excellent economy and acceleration during crusing. At 4,000rpm 29-30knts with 37-38ltr consumption. At 5,000rpm 38-39knts. Top speed was 46knts at 6050-6100knts which was my goal. I lost 1knt from end speed compared to 21.5x3.16.

I will also attempt to move the motor up one 1inch during the summer. I have the space based on the installation. Should improve results.

Hi Nektarios,

what about the fuel consumption results at average speed, and maximum range (nautic miles/litre) with the 21.5 and 20 ?

Hi Akeswins,

At 4,000rpm which I have average speed of 30knts for both props I had 37-38ltr fuel consumption. The wierd thing is that the same consumption is approximate for both 21,5 and 20 pitch props. I did not see any difference at this rpm.
